Groundwater Monitoring

As nearly half the county's water supply comes from groundwater, the district actively monitors groundwater elevations to evaluate current groundwater conditions and land subsidence, to optimize recharge efforts, to assess groundwater storage, and to support groundwater management efforts.  Monthly reports on water level conditions are available at the bottom of this page.  You can also directly search groundwater elevation data using the link below.

The district also surveys hundreds of benchmarks each year to determine if there has been any change in the land surface elevation.

As there are numerous threats to water quality, the district also monitors groundwater quality to assess current conditions and identify trends or areas of special concern. Wells are sampled for naturally occurring constituents, such as iron and manganese, as well as man-made contaminants like solvents.  The type and frequency of monitoring depends on the well location, land use, and the availability of groundwater data in the area. Public water suppliers also monitor their wells regularly to ensure the water meets applicable water quality standards.
