How much of a rebate will I get?
The district offers a combined water and energy rebate of $175 for qualifying Tier 3 clothes washers. City of Palo Alto residents must print the application (at www.waterenergysavings.com) to apply for the water portion of the rebate, which is $125 for Tier 3 rated machines. Note: Washing machines using silver ion technology will not qualify for the water portion of the rebate.
The City of Palo Alto also offers its residents an energy rebate for clothes washers through the Smart Energy Rebate Program. The energy rebate amount is $35 for Tier 2 rated machines and $75 for Tier 3 rated machines. Please visit the following website for more information: www.cityofpaloalto.org/resiwater.
How long will the rebate be available?
Rebates are available for purchasing qualified washers until December 31, 2010, or until funds run out, whichever comes first. All rebate applications must be postmarked no later than 90 days after purchase date.
How much can I save?
On average, a typical household will save 6,450 gallons of water, between $80-$100 in electricity, and $54 in detergent costs on a yearly basis. In addition, you’ll know you’re doing the environment a favor by saving water and reducing wastewater flows.
How much does a machine cost?
Between $500 and $1,600 before the rebate.
How well do these machines work?
Water-efficient washers generally outperform conventional washing machines, according to the February 2005 issue of Consumer Reports. For a free copy of this report, call (408) 265-2607, ext. 2554.
Features
Most water-efficient washing machines are front-loading; however, there are a few top-loading models. Many water-efficient machines are space savers, giving you the option of stacking them with a compatible dryer. Most have the same capacity as traditional models, primarily because they do not have a central agitator.
