The Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors officially adopted Plan Q on Friday 5/14 which was recommended by its Redistricting Advisory Committee. Plan Q was adopted following testimony from the public, consideration of past testimony during Redistricting Advisory Committee meetings, and consideration of all communications and letters received from the public. Plan Q includes seven smaller districts, each representing approximately 244,000 residents. Plan Q was adopted on a 5-2 vote.

The vote reversed a decision the board had made the previous week. Map Q meets the requirements of California legislation AB 466 to replace the current Board of Directors structure with a structure where all seven Board members would be elected from new districts drawn through a formal redistricting process. The redistricting plan also meets the requirements of the federal Voting Rights Act.

The plan can be viewed here.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages wholesale drinking water resources and provides stewardship for the county's five watersheds, including 10 reservoirs, more than 800 miles of streams and groundwater basins. The water district also provides flood protection throughout Santa Clara County.
